A careers fair has recently been staged at the David Nieper Academy in Alfreton.
The informative event was hosted to allow students at the academy to gain information and also chat to a multitude of companies and organisations from the area.
Mrs Fawcett at the academy said: “We were proud to hold our seventh annual careers fair recently, which was open to all year groups at the academy.
“Our students were able to talk with a wide variety of employers and education training providers to discuss future possibilities and career plans.
“We had over nearly 40 exhibitors, including a range of universities, colleges, employers, and alumni, for our students and parents to visit.
“Students thought and asked very relevant questions to find out lots of valuable information about a variety of careers and courses, from which we received a lot of very positive feedback from the exhibitors about the conversations that had taken place.”
Mrs Fawcett continued: “Communication is a skill that employers rate highly, and we know that young people need the opportunity, practice, and experience of speaking with unfamiliar people to improve it. Therefore, as an incentive, our exhibitors were handing out ‘golden tickets’ to any pupil who asked them a remarkable question.
“These pupils were then entered into a prize draw for the opportunity to win one of five £20 Amazon vouchers. The following five pupils were the winners: Dolcie Munnelley (Y11), Gurav Singh (Y9), Ryan Marshall (Y9), Vicky Kalchuk (Y11), and Emilie Soar (Y11).
“All other students who got a Golden Ticket received either a chocolate bar, a packet of sweets, or a pack of biscuits. Well done to all involved.”
Mrs Fawcett added: “Students, parents, and exhibitors have provided constructive feedback, and we will be working hard to make the next event even bigger and better.
“We would like to thank all the exhibitors for attending and making it an excellent day for our students. We really appreciate the time and efforts of these employers to support our students and academy.”
