An Alfreton pub has raised more than £5,000 for the Guide Dogs’ Name a Puppy initiative.
The Miners Arms, on Park Street, has been raising money to support the charity since Lewis Ward took over the pub in 2017.
Then, at the end of 2018, Lewis committed to raising £5,000 for the Name a Puppy scheme.
An auction held at the pub on November 26 raised more than £870, smashing the £5,000 target.
Lewis said: “Our auctions have been the main income for the charity, however we have done many events like skydiving, sponsored pub crawl, race nights, fun days, table top sales and during lockdown we had a pop-up book and DVD table outside the pub with an honesty bucket where people could make their donations.
“Our customers are very helpful and generous when it comes to our charity events. We couldn’t do our charity events without them.”
Thanks to the support from his customers, Lewis has been able to choose two names – Betty for a girl and Cody for a boy.
